Intel aggressively pushes network hardware

Intel India put more stress on its new fast ethernet technology in India, aggressively cutting prices and forging new partnerships, and launching new products.

The programme, called Avalanche, was started last March, with the entry of Intel's single chip adapter and FE network interface cards, grabbing 62 percent of FE adapter market in 1997.

market shifting inexorably towards Intranet and Internet technologies that themselves are getting more complex. And Intel's two-prong strategy aims to capture both the high and the low ends of the marketplace.

The new products now introduced include routing switches with layer 3 functions, routers for virtual private networks permitting the Internet to be used for wide area network connectivity, 10/100 hubs with auto-sensing on every port, new 100 mbps cards, a new adapter far better than the single chip FE adapter launched last year and gigabit modules for stackular switches. It also provides bells and whistles in the form of wake and alert on the local area network, fault tolerance and port aggregation.

Prices have been cut 25-30 per cent to undercut competition and the marketing network has been made wider and denser through its Intel Solution Partners programme.
