Email this story to a friend.

DSS Mobile's Mobilink Paging and Punwire's Page Me services have teamed up to provide a roaming facility in 102 cities in India. Page Me had earlier announced plans for roaming facilities in 460 cities.

Both companies also plan to use the same frequency and service code -- 9628.

To contact a subscriber to the roaming service, the caller just has to pass the

message on a local number. The message will be passed on to the called party even if he is in another city. And the service plans to ezpand later too. The companies expect about 10-20 per cent of the subscribers to opt for the roaming service with rates of Rs 150 per month for numeric pagers and Rs 250 for alphanumeric pagers. For instance, roaming in all 102 cities will cost an additional Rs. 1000 per month.

Punwire, which is still putting up infrastructure in 12 states, needs about Rs 5.6 billion for the project, Rs two billion of which is to come in as equity. The company is also planning to raise the rest of the money through debt after discussing the matter with institutions like IFCI and IDBI.
