US firm sends VSNL feelers for Internet roaming facilityGRIC Alliance, a US-based ISP, is negotiating with Videsh Sanchar Nigam Ltd officials to help travellers access their native networks without making international calls. GRIC, which intends to make "one plug in the wall" permit all facilities, including Internet telephony, fax, access to networks and more, claims it has already inked deals with 30 per cent of Internet users, covering 13 million
For the roaming facility, subscribers would have to pay about Rs 200 per hour besides the cost of a local call. And when in another country, s/he could access his company network from an ISP within that country. GRIC sources claim its software is compatible with all platforms and that it will become a standard across ISPs. Among its current customers are NETCOM, Singapore Telecom, Telstra, Malaysia Telecom and Korea PC Telecom.
