SAP sinks $25 million in new India lab

A company statement says it would invest up to $25 million in it over the next three years and ramp up staffing levels.

Working on further development of SAP's human resources solutions would be another important area for SAP Labs India.

Bangalore has been a very successful base for SAP's South Asia operations and there's also a good market out here in India explained Udo Urbanek, co-director, SAP Labs India.

Peter Zencke, executive board member, SAP, said SAP Labs India would also look at PC-based applications.

He argued that ERP products have not outlived their utility, claiming that it is the term 'enterprise resource planning' that is outdated and that ERP nomenclature is hardly a comprehensive way to describe products such as SAP's R/3.
