Oracle opens school at IIIT, Hyderabad

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has inaugurated the Oracle School for Advanced Software Technology at the Indian Institute of Information Technology.

This is the third school under IIIT after the IBM School of Enterprise Wide Computing and Metamor School of Excellence in Software Development Methodologies.

Naidu said "The most important element in preparing for the Information Age is education. Unless we focus on quality education, we will not be able to compete globally. IIIT is an institution established to achieve that goal. I hope India, especially Hyderabad, will become the second important location for Oracle after their facility in the US.''

Oracle is also setting up a major software development centre at the Hi-Tec City. Oracle is the world's second largest software company with a presence in over 90 countries, he said. Oracle's annual revenues are more than $7.1 billion, he added.

The Oracle School is planning to offer short-term courses on database technologies and ERP packages.

"It will become one of the leading competency centres for database, tools and Internet computing skills in India and the Asia-Pacific,'' Andrew Killen, vice-president, Oracle Education, Asia-Pacific said.

With the inauguration of world-class facility, Oracle has demonstrated its commitment to quality IT education and to turning to reality the vision of the local leadership, said Shekhar Dasgupta, country manager, Oracle India.

Oracle has a suite of products to offer in the areas of database, tools, Internet, electronic commerce, financial accounting/control and manufacturing applications software. The availability of Internet computing and 'network computing architecture', pioneered by Oracle is particularly relevant for largescale public projects in Andhra Pradesh and rest of the country.
