Leg-spinner Abhishek Sharma claimed four for 28 as India routed West Indies for a 96-run win in a Super League match of the ICC Under-19 cricket World Cup in Dhaka on Tuesday.
After posting a challenging 253 for nine, India bundled out the Caribbeans for 157 in 39.1 overs in a day-night match at the Bangabandhu Stadium.
After seamer Gaurav Dhiman (3-26) had plunged them to 54 for four, the Windies fought back through a 63-run fifth wicket stand between Assad Fudaddin (51) and Jonathan Augustus (29).
But Sharma's spell swung the match away from them.
The Delhi spinner first had Augustus caught by captain Ambati Rayudu with the scoreboard reading 117.
He then removed R Rampaul before L Sebastien fell to Suresh Raina as the Windies slipped to 138 for seven.
When Fudadin, after a 120 minute vigil at the crease, fell to Sharma, the match was sealed.
Earlier, India posted a healthy 253 for 9 in 50 overs against the West Indies in the Under-19 World Cup at the Bangabandhu National Stadium in Dhaka on Tuesday.
The Indian openers failed, as both Shikhar Dhawan and Robin Uthappa were sent packing to the pavilion before the fifth over with just 18 on the board.
Left-hander Rakesh Solanki played well for 33, combining with skipper Ambati Rayudu for a third-wicket partnership of 51.
Rayudu once again failed to convert his good start, scoring 47 before falling to left arm spinner Rishi Bachan, caught by Kirk Edwards. Suresh Raina held the innings together with a vital 66.
He and wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik added 75 runs for the fifth wicket at a run-a-ball.
Karthik played an attacking innings of 46 from just 50 balls. His knock had three boundaries and two sixes. But his innings, which promised much, ended in disappointing fashion when he was run-out.
Indeed, run-outs were the order of the day, as four Indian batsmen failed to make the crease. Poor and indecisive calling along with lethargic running between the wickets marred the innings.
West Indies one-day player Ravi Rampaul was the most successful bowler, claiming two wickets for 55 in his 10 overs.
