July 29, 2004 20:42 IST
Jagmohan Dalmiya was re-elected unopposed as president, while Samajwadi Party General Secretary Amar Singh made it to the Working Committee of the Cricket Association of Bengal at its 73rd Annual General Meeting in Kolkata on Thursday.
Dalmiya, who is also president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India, has been holding the post uninterrupted since 1992.
Amar Singh's foray into cricket administration was made possible following his nomination for the Working Committee as representative of the Aryans Club.
Following his unanimous election, a jubilant Amar Singh declared he wants to serve cricket and would attend all the meetings of the committee.
"My busy schedule will not be a hindrance," the political leader said, replying to questions from media persons.
Amar Singh, who was born in Kolkata, where he also began his political career, said, "I'm a son of the soil and would do my best for further development of the game in West Bengal."
Meanwhile, Sudhir Chakraborty and Bablu Kolay were re-elected joint-secretaries while Shib Kumar Kalyani replaced Amitava Chatterjee as treasurer.
All the office-bearers were elected by consensus.
