The opening of India cricket captain Sourav Ganguly's new restaurant slated for Tuesday has been postponed indefinitely.
A statement from the restaurant's public relations firm said, "In an endeavour to professionally present 'Sourav's - The Food Pavilion' complete with its trial runs, it has been decided to postpone the inauguration of the outlet."
The statement said a fresh date for the inauguration would be announced shortly. It did not mention any specific reason for the postponement.
Ganguly is currently leading the Indian team against Australia in a four-Test series, which the visitors lead 1-0 after two matches.
On September 27, Ganguly announced the launch of the luxury multiplex restaurant and said it would take in guests from October 19, coinciding with the first day of the five-day Durga Puja festival.
Ganguly described Sourav's, a three-storied multi-layered restaurant, as "a long time dream of mine".
Coming up on Park Street, a central Kolkata neighbourhod known for its swanky eateries, pubs and nightclubs, every tier of Sourav's houses a separate restaurant.
'Sourav's' has a vegetarian and a non vegetarian restaurant, a lounge bar and a coffee shop.
While Over Boundary is a multi cuisine restaurant, Maharaj, which is Ganguly's nickname, offers vegetarian fare. Prince of Cal will be a lounge bar and One Day a coffee shop.
Ganguly, who would have more than just his brand name at stake in this new venture, wanted to capitalise on the festive season. But, now that seems unlikely.
