In a major development, the Madras high court on Wednesday stayed the nomination of Justice S Mohan, a former judge of the Supreme Court, to conduct the election to the post of BCCI president.

The meeting to elect the new president of the BCCI has been adjourned till 5pm because Dalmiya has left the conference room after receiving intimation of the Madras high court order.

The court's order came in response to a public interest petition.

In the normal course, the outgoing BCCI president oversees the election of his successor. However this time, former BCCI president A C Muthaiah had moved the court seeking appointment of a judge to oversee the election.

However, with the high court now granting a stay on that order, outgoing BCCI president Jagmohan Dalmiya will conduct the election.

Muthaiah is among those supporting the candidature of Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar against Dalmiya nominee Ranbir Singh Mahendra, secretary general of the Haryana Cricket Association.

The order was passed by a division bench of the Madras High Court this morning staying the appointment of Justice (retired) S Mohan as Commissioner of the BCCI meeting to supervise the election.

The Madras High Court yesterday appointed Justice S Mohan, a former judge of Supreme Court.

The proceedings of the meeting stopped immediately after it was convened at 11.00 am as it was brought to the notice of the court appointed Commissioner that a stay order has been passed by the High Court.

Minutes later, outgoing BCCI President Jagmohan Dalmiya was seen coming out of the meeting along with Justice Mohan.

"The meeting was convened and kept in abeyance because of the latest development. It is a bad omen," senior Board member Raj Singh Dungarpur said as he also came out of the meeting.

Rajiv Shukla, another senior BCCI member, told newspersons that the meeting will be held after the issue is sorted out.
