Inzamam's dubious distinction

- Inzamam-ul-Haq [Images] captained Pakistan for the 50th time in one-day internationals. He became the fifth Pakistan captain after Imran Khan [Images] (139), Wasim Akram (109), Javed Miandad and Waqar Younis (62 each) to do so.

- During his brief stay at the wicket, Sourav Ganguly [Images] completed his 5,000 runs as a captain. He became the third player to achieve the feat after Sri Lanka's [Images] Arjuna Ranatunga (5,606 runs in 193 matches) and India's Mohammad Azharuddin (5,239 runs in 174 matches).

- Mahendra Singh Dhoni (148) became second Indian wicketkeeper after Rahul Dravid [Images] to score a century in ODIs. Dravid has four centuries to his credit in the matches in which he also kept wicket for India.

- Dhoni's innings is now the highest ever by an Indian against Pakistan. The previous record was jointly held by Sourav Ganguly and Sachin Tendulkar [Images] with a score of 141. Infact, in all ODIs there have been only two higher scores made against Pakistan -- 156 and 153 both by Brian Lara [Images] in 2005 and 1993 respectively.

- Dhoni's hundred was the 16th hundred for India against Pakistan. With this India have equalled West Indies' [Images] record of scoring most hundreds against Pakistan in ODIs.

- The fourth wicket partnership of 149 runs between Dhoni and Rahul Dravid is India's best for this wicket against Pakistan. The pair obliterated the previous record stand of 145 between Krish Srikkanth and Mohammad Azharuddin at Kolkata (Calcutta) in 1986-87.

- India's 300 came off 42.0 overs (last ball of the 42nd over), which is their fastest 300 in ODIs. The previous fastest was against Pakistan at Karachi in March 2004, which came off 43.0 overs.

- India's total of 356-9 is the highest by any country against Pakistan in a 50-over game. This obliterated the previous highest of 349-9 by Sri Lanka at Singapore in 1995-96 and 349-7 by India at Karachi in 2003-04. However, the highest ever total against Pakistan in ODIs still remains 363 for 7 by England [Images] at Nottingham in 1992 in a 55-over game.

-  Kamran Akmal now holds the Pakistani record of not conceding a single bye in the highest total made against Pakistan. The previous record was on the name of Moin Khan who did not let a bye in Sri Lanka's total of 339 (for four) at Mohali in 1996-97.

-  Inzamam, by getting run-out, achieved a dubious distinction. This was 38th time that Inzamam was getting run-out in his ODI career. He has now equalled the tally of former teammate Wasim Akram -- most such dismissals by any batsman in ODIs.

-  Ashish Nehra's figures of 4-72 are the second most expensive for any bowler picking up four wickets in a match after Pakistan's Waqar Younis, who conceded 73 runs against England at Nottingham in 1992.

-  The match aggregate of 654 (for the loss of 19 wickets) just failed to beat the all-time highest in a match on Indian soil. At Rajkot in 1999-00, 655 runs were scored in a India-New Zealand ODI.
