Security has been beefed up in and around the Green Park Stadium, proposed venue for a one-day international between India and Pakistan, after a futile attempt by Shiv Sena activists to enter into the stadium on Saturday, police said.

About fifty Shiv Sainiks, who came in a truck, raised slogans before attempting to enter the stadium, but they were denied entry by security persons, police sources said.

They said raids are being conducted at the residence of several Shiv Sena activists throughout the city but no arrest has been made so far.

After making an attempt to damage the Mohali stadium pitch, Shiv Sena leaders had threatened to damage the pitch at Green Park stadium following which the Regional Sports Officer of the stadium in Kanpur, Brijendra Singh, had written a letter to SSP Kanpur yesterday demanding proper security.

Heavy police force has been deployed in and around the stadium and all the four gates have been closed.
