Former Test fast bowler Saleem Altaf was appointed as Pakistan cricket team's manager for the upcoming tour of India after another former player Majid Khan turned down the offer.
PCB Chairman Shaharyar Khan said that considering the importance of the tour, Altaf, who is also the PCB's Director (Cricket Operations), had been appointed to the post.
"We have relieved Haroon Rasheed, who has been our manager for the last two years and did an excellent job," Shaharyar Khan said.
Asad Mustafa, who is General Manager (Logistics) of PCB, has been appointed as Assistant Manager.
Altaf was appointed manager after Majid Khan rejected the offer to take up the post of manager on the Indian tour. Majid
said that after having served as PCB's chief executive between 1996 and 1999, he could not accept a lower post.
Altaf, who played 21 Tests and took over his assignment in the PCB on February 1, said: "It is a great honour for me
to serve as manager on such an important tour."
Haroon Rasheed, on his part, said, "It is PCB's decision and I respect that. As far as I am concerned, I am convinced
that I performed my responisbilities to the best of my abilities."
