Telecom players call for IUC regime

Telecom operators on Saturday agreed to implement the new interconnect usage charge (IUC) regime as scheduled from May 1.
After discussions with all operators, TRAI Chairman Pradip Baijal indicated that they have agreed to implement the regime.
"We have talked to all operators and discussed various technical issues related to the implementation of the regime and have decided on one option which has been accepted by all telecom stakeholders," Baijal told reporters.
Under the option agreed upon by operators, the reconciliation of data will be done by BSNL on an off-line basis.
The interim phase will end by March 31, 2004 with implementation of call data record-based billing system by all operators, including Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd.
The Authority will also take up a related issue standardisation of WLL (wireless in local loop) numbering for all basic service operators with implementation of IUC regime.
The various alternate tariff packages announced by various operators will come into effect as also free incoming call scheme for cell subscribers.
