No harm in unified license regime: BSNL

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited on Friday said that the concept of unified license regime as propounded by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India was not harmful from the point of view of the operators.
"There is no harm in the unified licensing regime," Prithipal Singh, chairman and managing director, BSNL, told reporters in Kolkata on Friday.
Singh said that BSNL was now perusing the study paper prepared by Trai and declined to comment on the issue.
When asked, the BSNL chief said that there are no plans for an initial public offer at the moment.
Singh said that BSNL'S cellular service Cellone would be rolled out in the Calcutta Telephones circle by September this year.
He said that the target of achieving five million GSM mobile connections this year will be met. The target for WiLL connections for BSNL is 1.6 million.
The BSNL chief said that the corporation will announce new schemes for GSM mobile before August 15 this year.
