Forex reserves rise by $148 mn

India's foreign exchange reserves rose by $148 million at $85.563 billion, a record high level, during the week ended August 22.

The foreign currency assets increased by $147 million at $81.932 billion in the period under review, according to Reserve Bank of India's weekly statistical supplement released in Mumbai on Saturday.

Gold reserves remained unchanged at $3.628 billion while special drawing rights at $3 million, registered a rise of $1 million, it said.

For the week ended August 15, the country's foreign exchange reserves had jumped by $418 million to cross the $85 billion mark.

In the week ended August 22, loans to the state government were up by Rs 1,348 crore (Rs 13.48 billion) at Rs 5,279 crore (Rs 52.79 billion) while that to central government showed a nil balance, RBI added.
