Export procedures to be simplified: Jaitley

February 05, 2003 17:00 IST

To further encourage the country's huge export growth of over 20 per cent this fiscal compared to last year, the Centre has embarked on "total simplification" of the procedures by this year end, Union Commerce and Industries Minister Arun Jaitley said in Kolkata on Wednesday.

As part of this procedure, keeping in mind the specific needs of Indian exporters, the government had launched a massive computerisation programme in all the 23 Export/Import sea and air terminal points and introduce on-line service in all of them by March 31, Jaitley told an open house session of the Federation of Indian Export Organisation (Eastern Region).

Delivering his speech before the industry since assuming the new office only a couple of days ago, Jaitley said similar initiative had also been taken up in all the customs check posts in the country for completion by December 31 this year so that no exporter or importer faced any unnecessary hassle in meeting his business obligations in time in future.

Jaitley, who gave a patient hearing to a large number of problems, highlighted by different exporters' organisations, also promised to look into each of them before giving final touches to the new Exim Policy.

Besides Jaitley, Union minister of state for Commerce and Industry Rajiv Pratap Rudy, Union Commerce Secretary Dipak Chatterjee and FIEO President M.Rafeeque Ahmed, among others, participated in the deliberations at the Open Session on Pre-Exim Policy scenario.
