Per capita income to fall during 2002-03

In consonance with the projected fall in GDP growth to 4.4 per cent during 2002-03, the national income and the per capita income are also estimated to fall to 4.2 per cent and 2.4 per cent respectively during the current fiscal.

The national income growth stood at 6.2 per cent and the per capita income grew at 4.3 per cent during 2001-02, according to figures released by the Central Statistical Organisation.

The net national product at factor cost, also known as national income, at 1993-94 prices is likely to be Rs 11,61,966 crore (Rs 11,620 billion) during 2002-03 as against the previous year's Quick Estimate for the year 2001-02 of Rs 11,15,157 crore (Rs 11,152 billion).

As far as per capita income is concerned, in real terms (at 1993-94 prices) it is likely to attain a level of Rs 11,014 as compared to the Quick Estimate of Rs 10,754 for 2001-02 financial year.

The estimates of the population growth during 2002-03 is shown at 1.7 per cent at 1055 million people.

This is in comparison with 1.8 per cent growth as per Quick Estimates during 2001-02 at 1037 million people.

The NNP at factor cost at current prices is anticipated to be Rs 19,79,693 crore (Rs 19,797 billion) during 2002-03 as compared to Rs 18,64,292 crore (Rs 18,643 billion) during 2001-02, showing a rise of 6.2 per cent.

The per capita income at current prices during 2002-03 is estimated to be Rs 18,765 as compared to Rs 17,978 during 2002-02, showing a rise of 4.4 per cent, says the release.
