India's largest truck-maker, Tata Engineering and Locomotive Co Ltd, said on Monday its vehicle sales in January in the domestic market jumped 29 per cent from a year earlier to 23,316 units.
Domestic sales in the ten months to January rose 26 per cent to 165,276 vehicles, it said in a statement released after market hours.
Its truck and bus sales in January rose a little more than 29 per cent to 10,746 units.
It sold 12,570 utility vehicles and cars in January, its highest ever monthly sales of passenger vehicles.
Telco said this was boosted by robust sales of its recently launched sedan, the Tata Indigo.
Indigo's January sales stood at 2,146 units, which the company said represented a 27 per cent market share in the mid-size segment, ahead of 10 competitors.
Telco's shares ended down 1.65 per cent at Rs 161.05 on the Bombay Stock Exchange, whose key index closed down 0.7 per cent.
