Tata Tele to leverage on low mobile tariff plan

Tata Teleservices Ltd, which has decided to continue its Rs 999 code division multiple access mobile offer, will try to leverage on the scheme's 'lower monthly expenses' element.
The recently launched 'Monsoon Hungama' scheme of Reliance Infocomm highlights its 'lowest entry cost'.
"The Rs 999 mobile' offer, which was introduced on June 13, has received tremendous response across the country. In Gujarat alone TTSL has registered over 10,000 new subscribers in the last one month. We have decided to sell our products through an intensive campaign which will talk about the low monthly outgo a TTSL subscriber will incur," a senior company official said.
TTSL had set up small kiosks across the country and put up temporary staff as part of its Rs 999 mobile offer. The company is yet to officially announce figures of its subscriber base.
TTSL chief operating officer Jagrut Vyas said: "The best deal in a mobile phone is not about the initial payment. A prospective buyer should see the total price he is paying for a handset, which includes initial payment plus monthly instalments, and the call charges according to the tariff plan selected by him."
Under the Rs 999 mobile plan, a new subscriber will have to pay monthly instalment ranging between Rs 199-99 under various schemes for 24 months. This is apart from the rental for using services which also comes with a booty of free airtime.
Vyas said, "Consumers must be made aware of the details of the so called 'cheapest offers' from various operators on a daily basis. Our plans do not include any hidden charges besides offering mobility at rock bottom costs, the lowest call rates and the highest amount of talk-time."
Claiming that TTSL's code division multiple access handsets are available at lowest prices, Vyas said, "Under this scheme, a customer will be paying Rs 1,902 less than the nearest competitor. After analysing customers' requirements and based on the response we got for our 999 scheme launched in June, we have decided to extend the offer to an entry level plan of Rs 295 as well so that more people can go mobile."
Sources said during the last one-month, TTSL has registered at least 50,000 subscribers across its six circles which has led to a total number of 6,50,000 CDMA subscribers for TTSL in India.
