July 18, 2003 13:29 IST
Motorola's long-pending proposal to undertake wholesale marketing, cash and carry stocking and sale of goods has been cleared by the Foreign Investment Promotion Board, the company said in a statement on Friday.
FIPB has also cleared the sale and supply of capital infrastructure goods for two-way radio systems, broadband communication equipment, cellular and WLL infrastructure equipment and other infrastructure required for establishing communication systems and networks to telecom service operators, wholesalers, distributors and institutional customers, the release added.
"The clearance from FIPB is a welcome step for Motorola India. Motorola has been one of the oldest and largest telecom solution partners for India, and we expect to maintain our leadership position through our extensive product portfolio," Rajesh Madan, director of corporate law in the India office of Motorola, said on Friday.
Motorola has also been granted permission to undertake wholesale trading and marketing of wireless handsets including GSM and CDMA sets, two-way handsets and set top boxes for Internet, broadcasting and broadband communications.
