Bharti says overseas float to top $185 million
June 02, 2003 14:27 IST
Bharti Tele-Ventures Ltd, India's largest cellular services provider, announced on Monday plans for a more than $185 million US listing during the next financial year.
The company, 16 percent owned by Singapore Telecommunications Ltd, said proceeds from the listing would be used partly to fund acquisitions.
"It will be a U.S. listing and the size of the listing will exceed $185 million," Sunil Bharti Mittal, chairman of the Bharti Group, told reporters.
In February 2002, Bharti raised eight billion rupees through a domestic initial public offering.
The company offers cellular services in 15 out of 22 telecom market districts in India, spanning 93 percent of the $5.0 billion mobile phone market in the nation of more than one billion people.
The New Delhi-based Bharti also provides fixed-line services and Internet access in the Indian market that analysts say is one of the world's fastest-growing.
Bharti Tele-Ventures also said it was aiming for six million customers by March 2004. It now has 3.22 million cellular customers.
