June 03, 2003 18:47 IST
The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India on Tuesday met key telecom operators including the Tatas, Reliance, and Shyam Telecom, besides BSNL and MTNL, to work out an interim arrangement regarding the interconnection usage charge till its review process was over.
"We discussed interim arrangement for allocating any shortfall in IUC charge till TRAI completes the review of the IUC regime," TRAI Chairman Pradeep Baijal told reporters after a closed-door meeting with various operators in New Delhi.
He said the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India had received the comments of telecom operators on the interim arrangement and would finalise its views on the matter shortly.
Meanwhile, sources said TRAI would complete the review of IUC regime next month for which the consultation process through open house will begin from June 10.
Industry and other stakeholders have been asked to submit their views till June 6 and subsequently the consultation process would start.
TRAI has already brought out a consultation paper raising various issues such as IUC, the access deficit charges, tariffs and Calling Party Pays.
The questions include, whether the IUC regime needs any improvement and streamlining, whether tariff forbearance for WLL and cellular services should continue and whether the fixed line tariffs should continue to be regulated.
