Cisco India head Manoj Chugh puts in papers

Manoj Chugh, president, India and SAARC, Cisco Systems, has put in his papers.

Owen Chan, vice-president, Asia-Pacific, Cisco Systems has taken over Chugh's responsibilities till a new president is appointed.

Chugh told Business Standard that he had quit due to personal reasons. "I have decided to step aside due to personal reasons. When I took over three years ago, we had set certain goals for the company. Now that we have met those goals, I have decided to move on."

Chugh, who took over as president of the company in May 2000 from Anil Batra, said, "I am exploring various options and will finalise one soon," he said.

Chugh is an industry veteran with an engineering degree from the IIT Kharagpur in 1982 and 18 years of IT industry experience. Before taking over as president of Cisco India, he was country manager for Scientific Atlanta in India.

He started his career with HCL and later moved on to Wipro, where he worked for 14 years in various capacities, including leading the north India operations of Wipro Infotech covering sales, channels, support and business development.

He was later responsible for the telecom solutions business and the server business in Wipro.

Cisco, a leader in networking, had identified India as one of its fastest growing markets in the world.

Besides marketing and sales, it also has a research and development centre in India. The company works with the leading Indian software and call centre companies to outsource services for the global market.
