March 04, 2003 15:47 IST
Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd is likely to file three to four alternate tariff packages for basic telephony services with Telecom Regulatory Authority of India.
According to BSNL sources, in all three to four alternate packages are likely to be filed for basic services soon, besides the standard tariff package.
The corporation is not likely to propose any hike in the rentals in the alternate tariff packages, at least for exchange capacity of 100,000 and above.
There is not likely to be any change in call charges with regard to the pulse rate of three minutes, for calls within the network, they pointed out.
BSNL had earlier said that it is working out alternate tariff packages with "flexibility and value additions", for its subscribers.
Trai recently announced its new tariff order which brings with it an increase in basic phone rentals, reduction in call duration and sharp curtailment in number of free calls with effect from April 1, 2003, while some good news would come in form of free incoming calls for cellular subscribers.
