March 04, 2003 15:43 IST
Only seven multinational companies have delisted from Indian stock exchanges between April and December last year and their market capitalisation as a proportion of total market cap on exchanges is negligible, Rajya Sabha was informed on Tuesday.
However, 11 Indian companies have also delisted from the bourses during the period under review, Minister of State for Finance and Company Affairs Anadrao V Adsul said in a written reply.
"Over the period April 2002 to December 2002, only seven MNCs delisted from the Indian exchanges. Thus, total market cap on the Indian exchanges has not been affected in any significant manner by delisting of MNCs," he said.
As per data made available by the Securities and Exchange Board of India, only 21 MNCs have delisted between 1997 and 2002 while 41 others which also delisted during the period under review cannot be classified as MNCs, the minister added.
