RBI, banks to extend hours on Mar 29, 31

March 28, 2003 18:00 IST

Reserve Bank of India is to keep its tax collecting counters open for extended time on March 29 and 31 to facilitate payment of taxes by assessees.

The apex bank has asked all public sector banks and other authorised banks to keep their tax collecting branches open for a reasonably longer time for this purpose only, the RBI said in a release in Mumbai on Friday.

RBI has also asked its own offices and agency to extend banking hours suitably at different centres depending on the governments' requirements and rush of assessees for payment of taxes.

Accordingly, counters at RBI in Mumbai and Navi Mumbai would remain open upto 3.30 pm for receiving cash deposits representing taxes and upto 6.30 pm for receiving cheques/instruments for taxes on March 29 and 30.
