Indian PC market comprising desktops, Notebooks and Intel based servers grew by 22 per cent in the third quarter of 2003 at 655,229 units compared to the same period a year ago.

The Asia Pacific market (excluding Japan) PC shipments totalled 7.7 million units in Q3, reflecting a growth of 11 per cent over the same period a year ago, according to industry analyst Gartner.

China led the ranking by shipping 3.5 million units followed by Australia with 731,220 units. Korea shipped 727,711 units during the quarter.

India is placed below Korea in terms of shipments.

This has been a corporate-driven quarter. Unlike big orders from large organisations, this quarter witnessed sizeable deals from medium businesses contributing a significant portion of corporate shipment, Vinod Nair, analyst, hardware, Gartner India said.

These are healthy indications of consistent demand across corporate segment and that organisations are now buying without any restrictions on their budegts, he said, adding the home segment clocked average performance.

From vertical perspective, the lack of big government orders has been met by increased uptake from the financial and banking segment.
