Nagappa's wife meets Jayalalithaa

N Sathiya Moorthy in Chennai

Parimala Nagappa, wife of former Karnataka minister H Nagappa abducted by forest brigand Veerappan over two months ago, called on Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Wednesday, along with family members.

"We asked for the governments of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka to cooperate in Nagappa's release as much as they have done thus far in trying to nab Veerappan," Nagappa's daughter, Bhavan, told the media.

Though the family did not spell it out, there were enough indications that they wanted the Tamil Nadu Special Task Force to stall its search operations for Veerappan, just as the Karnataka STF has done to facilitate Ponnachi Mahadevaswamy to negotiate with the brigand.

Bhavan also said the family felt helpless at Karnataka's decision not to send state minister Raju Gowda as another emissary, as demanded by Veerappan.

"Nor does it seem that [imprisoned] Kolathur Mani, the other emissary wanted by Veerappan, could go," she said.
