Krishna promises 'fair trial' if Veerappan surrenders

Karnataka Chief Minister S M Krishna has promised a 'fair trail' for Veerappan if he surrenders.

He said the forest brigand would be given a chance to present his case before the court of law. The government would also consider his case humanely, Krishna said.

Krishna announced this while meeting Lingayet seers, who were holding a day-long convention on Wednesday demanding enhanced government efforts to get the abducted former minister H Nagappa released from Veerappan's clutches.

Reacting to seers' demand to consider Nagappa abduction issue on par with the Rajakumar case, he said, "A lot of things have changed after Rajakumar's abduction. Now the state cannot withdraw cases easily."

He said the Supreme Court had set certain guidelines during Rajakumar's abduction about such issues, adding the state was bound to follow the court guidelines.
