Veerappan sets 12-day deadline for
release of Kolathur Mani

Veerappan, who has abducted Janata Dal-United leader H Nagappa, on Thursday sent a fifth audiocassette to the Karnataka government.

He is learnt to have served a 12-day ultimatum to the government on sending as an emissary Tamil activist Kolathur Mani, who is languishing in Bellary jail.

The bandit is said to have rejected the government's offer to send Janata Dal leader Mahadevaswamy as an emissary.

The cassette arrived at a panchayat member's residence in Ramapura village.

The panchayat member, Nagendra, was in Bangalore along with Nagappa's family members who had gone there to participate in a convention of Lingayat seers.

In the evening the cassette was brought to Bangalore and handed over to Chief Minister S M Krishna.
