Sonia launches scathing attack on NDA

April 26, 2003 00:30 IST

Nothing good can happen in the country unless the Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance government is removed, Congress president Sonia Gandhi said on Friday.

"Under this government, unemployment is increasing and there is a steep rise in prices and corruption," Gandhi told a Madhya Pradesh-level 'cooperative convention' at the historic Lal Parade Ground in Bhopal.

Whatever is happening has broken the common man's back and there is darkness all around, she said.

The area under agriculture is shrinking and materials used in farming are becoming costlier, she said, adding farmers are not getting good prices for their produce.

Unlike the Congress, whenever the BJP has come to power at the Centre or the states, it has worked for the destruction of agriculture and cooperative sectors, she said.

The Congress president said the BJP and its allies believe in coming together only for the sake of their vested interests.

She also claimed that all the Congress governments in various states are doing a better job than the Centre.
