In the midst of efforts to break the ice between India and Pakistan, Bharatiya Janata Party on Monday said resumption of dialogue would not serve any meaningful 'purpose' till Islamabad puts an end to cross-border terrorism.

"We want Pakistan to put an end to cross-border terrorism and create a conducive atmosphere for talks. There is no use talking to them otherwise as Indian public opinion would not support it," party president M Venkaiah Naidu said when asked about the telephonic conversation between Pakistani Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali and Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee on Monday night.

He was talking to reporters after delivering the keynote address at the CII National Conference and Annual Session in Delhi.

Recalling that India's experience with Pakistan has been 'bad' in the past, Naidu said, "Talks would not serve any meaningful purpose till the necessary climate is created." He, however, said it was for the government to assess the situation and take a decision and BJP too was in favour of good neighbourly relations.
