One person was killed and 30 injured on Wednesday in two separate explosions in Jammu and Kashmir even as authorities tightened security ahead of Independence Day.

One person was killed when militants hurled a grenade on a security patrol at Koimoh in Anantnag district in south Kashmir. Six persons were injured in the blast.

In another incident, at least 24 persons were injured on Wednesday noon in an explosion in the main market of Bandipora in north Kashmir's Baramulla district, police said.

They have been rushed to a hospital and the condition of six is stated to be serious.

Sources said the explosion was caused by an improvised explosive device (IED) planted near a hotel.

No one has yet claimed responsibility for the blast.
