'I hope insurgency in the Northeast comes to an end'

I am from Imphal, the capital of Manipur, and came to Mumbai a year ago. People cannot pronounce my name here so I use the name 'Silina.' I am the only female staffer at the restaurant where I work.

I want to finish my 12th standard and learn computers. Then I can get a better job. I want to join one of the cruise liners from the Middle East or South East. I don't know if I will be successful but that's my dream.

I want to be able to support my old parents who look after an orange farm in Manipur.

I hope insurgency in the Northeast comes to an end because it badly affects the normal life of civilians. That is one of the reasons I decided to come to Mumbai.

What upsets me most about India is its poverty. People living in slums should be given better places to stay and villages should be transformed into cities. Then India would become a very nice place to stay.

India really needs better leaders. Politicians are too busy fighting among themselves to cater to the needs of the citizens.

As told to Sukanya Verma
