Attack in Pakistani mosque, 8 killed

February 22, 2003 21:49 IST

Eight people were killed and ten injured when three gunmen opened fire inside the Imam Bargha Mehdi, a Shiite mosque in Karachi, Pakistan, on Saturday, officials said.

The attack took place when around 25 worshippers were performing their evening prayers.

The motive for the attack is not clear, but Shiites have recently come under attack from Sunni Muslims.

Authorities recently arrested several members of the Lashkar-e-Jhangvi, a banned Sunni terrorist group.
