Warangal mishap: 14 dead identified

The South Central Railway authorities have identified ten of the over 22 reported dead in Wednesday morning's derailment of the Secundrabad-bound Golconda Express in Warangal in Andhra Pradesh.

The list of dead:

1. Veeraswamy (aged 34, resident of Kesamudram)
2. P Shivaram Krishna (35, Kesamudram)
3. K S N Rao (police constable from Mahbubnagar)
4. K Ananda Kumar (40, Dornakal)
5. C Veerabhadraiah (70, retired railway employee, Warangal)
6. Ms Priyanka (d/o Ramulu, government teacher, Dornakal)
7. Ms Amboji Bobi (10, d/o Gangye, Nagaram, Nekonda mandal)
8. Ms Bukki Tore (25, w/o Rakia, Mangimadugu)
9. Ms Bukki Bujji (30, w/o Mangiya, Mangimadugu)
10. Ms Bhagyalakshmi (45, Penukonda)
11. Nageshwara Sharma (45, lecturer in B Ed College at Hanmakonda)
12. Kumara Swamy (30, s/o Rama Swamy, auto driver, Timmapur)
13. S K Chunni (36, s/o Farid, Timmanapet, Warangal)
14. S K Fareed (ShaibPet, Warangal)

Of the 22 injured in the accident, eight have been identified as follows: M Butchary (23), P Rama (30), G Venkateshwarlu (30), N Lallu (22), Ms Z Rama (32), G Ravi (20), E Nagi Reddy (30) and Ms B Laxmi (30)."

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, who rushed to Warangal by a helicopter, visited the accident site. He expressed concern over the frequent train accidents in the state and elsewhere in the country and pointed out that he had spoken to Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee, urging him to order a high-level inquiry into this accident.

The SCR said that train driver Mohammed Rasheed Jani and his assistant P Sambaiah are among the injured.

Railway Minister Nitish Kumar has ordered an inquiry into the mishap.
