Umarji, three others remanded to
judicial custody

March 11, 2003 19:22 IST

Maulana Hussain Umarji, the alleged mastermind behind the Godhra carnage, and three other accused were on Tuesday further remanded to judicial custody for 14 days by a railway mobile court at Godhra.

The other accused are Idrish Saka, Mehbub Changa and Indrish Raval.

First Class Judicial Magistrate A R Patel remanded the accused and the four have been brought back to the central jail in Vadodara, official sources said.

Meanwhile, Sonia Gokani has been appointed judge of the POTA [Prevention of Terrorism Act] court that will hear cases related to the Godhra train carnage.

The court is likely to start functioning some time later in March after the appointment of a government pleader, as required under the POTA.
