Kanchan Mishra, married to gangster Sultan Mian, in December 2002, on Sunday denied she had been forcibly married.

"It was by mutual consent and as per my wish," Mishra told rediff.com on after the police rescued her in Siwan district.

Mian wedded Mishra [who was already twice-married] at a mosque in Mainpura locality in Patna on November 6, 2002. According to the police there was no evidence of force, because even her mother, Suchitra Devi, had not filed a complaint.

The National Commission for Women took notice of the case after Mishra's previous husband filed a complaint that she was kidnapped and forced into wedlock by Sultan Mian. The commission sent a team led by its Chairperson Purnima Advani to probe the case and establish the truth.

Misra's denial has shocked the police as well as the commission members. The cops are seething as the commission had earlier flayed them for being lax in tracing the couple.

Mishra also contradicted the police theory that Sultan Mian forcibly married her in a mosque in Patna. "Our marriage took place in Siwan not in a Patna's mosque," she said.

According to sources in the state police headquarters in Patna, Sultan Mian and Kanchan Mishra were interrogated on Sunday after their arrest. "Mian revealed a numbers of information's about his links and network including his relations with a minister of Rabri Devi government in Bihar which will be useful for us," they said.

Sultan is wanted by the police in connection with more than two dozen cases of murder, kidnapping and extortion lodged with different police stations of Patna. He was carrying a cash reward of Rs 50,000 on his head.
