The Bahujan Samaj Party Saturday announced it would contest 160 seats in Madhya Pradesh, 125 in Rajasthan, 55 in Chhattisgarh and 40 in Delhi in the coming Assembly polls.

It ruled out any poll alliance and said it would leave 'weak constituencies' to other parties to defeat the Bharatiya Janata Party.

BSP President and former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mayawati told reporters in New Delhi the candidates for Delhi, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh would be announced by local units on Sunday, while the Madhya Pradesh list would be released on November 6.

On the possibility of a tie-up with the Congress, Mayawati said the BSP would have no electoral alliance. "Our support base is increasing. We will contest the polls on our own," she said.

However, in the post-poll scenario, her party could consider alliances if it served BSP supporters' interests, she said.

"Our main objective is to stop the BJP from coming to power.
We shall only contest seats where we are strong. At other places, we will leave it to the conscience of BSP supporters to vote for any party they feel can defeat the BJP," Mayawati said.

She said the split in the party's Madhya Pradesh unit would not affect its electoral prospects.
