Power failure again in southern Maharashtra, Gujarat

November 07, 2003 19:10 IST

Southern Maharashtra and some parts of Gujarat were again severely affected by a power failure on Friday afternoon even as the Maharashtra State Electricity Board put the blame on low voltage and excess drawing of power by Madhya Pradesh.

A grid failure had plunged large parts of Maharashtra, Gujarat and Goa into darkness on Wednesday.

"There was a partial power failure in the entire south Maharashtra and parts of Marathwada at around 1315 IST...full restoration of electricity supply is likely to take some time," an MSEB source said.

He said the generating stations are operating on lower capacity and would begin to operate fully before nightfall.

Several cities in Maharashtra, including Satara, Kolhapur and Sangli, were affected due to power breakdown.
