In view of the arrest of several policemen in the fake stamp paper racket, Chief Minister Sushilkumar Shinde is finally considering revamping Maharashtra's police force.

Nine policemen, including Inspector General (Intelligence) Sridhar Vagal, have been arrested while on Wednesday, the Special Investigation Team probing the racket briefed the Bombay high court about the lapses on the part of Mumbai Police Commissioner in connection with the case.

Several others are under scrutiny. Two MLAs have also been arrested.

Shinde admitted that the involvement of police officials in the scam is 'not good for the image of Maharashtra'.

"Considering the seriousness of allegations against the police department, I will discuss the issue with my deputy Chhagan Bhujbal," the chief minister said. He has sought a copy of the SIT's report on Sharma's role in the racket.

The report followed a directive by the Bombay high court acting on a Public Interest Litigation filed by social activist Anna Hazare and others demanding punishment to those involved in the multi-crore racket.

'I am confident the state government will take action against Police commissioner R S Sharma because the court is keeping track of the developments," Hazare said on Wednesday.
