Bhujbal serves legal notice on Rane

November 18, 2003 22:33 IST

Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra Chhagan Bhujbal on Tuesday slapped a legal notice on Leader of the Opposition Narayan Rane for making 'baseless' charges against him in connection with the multi-crore fake stamp paper scam.

Bhujbal, who holds the home portfolio, has asked Rane to apologise within seven days in two newspapers for his
defamatory remarks or else face criminal and civil proceedings.

The notice, sent by Bhujbal's lawyer Sanjeev Kadam, says the image of deputy chief minister had been lowered in public because of the wild allegations made by Rane.

Rane had alleged in a section of the media on November 10 that police had gone soft on prime accused Abdul Karim Telgi because of Bhujbal's intervention.
