November 19, 2003 14:23 IST

A petition has been filed in the Supreme Court seeking a Central Bureau of Investigation probe into the Telgi stamp paper scam.

The Telgi Scam: The Complete Coverage

The petition, filed by advocate Ajay Aggarwal, was mentioned on Tuesday before a bench headed by Chief Justice V N Khare.

It is likely to be listed for hearing on December 15.

The petitioner, annexing several newspaper reports relating to the scam, alleged that though Deputy Prime Minister Lal Kishenchand Advani had said the Centre was ready for a CBI inquiry, the states were not making such a request as "political bigwigs" were involved in the scandal.
