President Kalam in Sudan

October 21, 2003 01:14 IST

President A P J Abdul Kalam arrived in Sudan on Monday evening on the second leg of his three-nation tour.

He was accorded a red carpet welcome with Sudanese President Omer Hassan Ahmed al Bashir receiving him at the Khartoum International Airport at the start of his two-day state visit.

Kalam, who reached Khartoum from Dubai on his "learning trip", inspected a guard of honour after which al Bashir introduced him to his cabinet colleagues and diplomats.

Kalam, who is on his first foreign visit as President, will be addressing the Sudanese parliament, interacting with Sudanese scholars and members of the Indian community.

It is after a gap of 28 years that an Indian President is visiting the largest African nation.
