Former defence minister George Fernandes [Images] on Tuesday expressed concern over the display of satellite pictures of sensitive installations of the country by global online search engine Google.

"It is dangerous. There is a reason to worry. This will affect our national security. I will look into it and express my concerns to the government," he told reporters in Chennai.

Google Earth's display of pictures of key Indian installations including military bases, offices of the prime minister and the President, as well as nuclear facilities, has raised concerns from various quarters in the recent past.

On Iran's attempts to attain nuclear capabilities, he said New Delhi need not be bothered about "What US thinks of Iran" as India was a "major political power."

"Iran has always been our friend. We should see to it that no harm comes to it," he said.
