Prime Minister Manmohan Singh [Images] Sunday allayed the concerns of Left parties on the Iran nuclear issue saying New Delhi would not come under pressure and do whatever was best for the country.
"We will do what is right for the country. India's national interest in the prime concern whether it is domestic or foreign policy," Dr Singh told reporters on the sidelines of the swearing-in ceremony of new entrants to the Union Council of Ministers.
Dr Singh said, "We will not come under pressure. We will do the right thing for the country. Our prime concern is to protect and safeguard India's enlightened national interest."
He was replying to a question on the Left parties demand asking the United Progressive Alliance government to abstain from voting if consensus eludes the crucial International Atomic Energy Agency meeting on Iran's controversial nuclear programme on February 2.
