Bharatiya Janata Party vice president Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi on Sunday evening said that his party was ready for a mid-term poll in case the Congress and the Left parties fail to find a solution to the ongoing crisis over the India-United States nuclear deal.

The Left Front had served a notice to the United Progressive Alliance government that it would withdraw the support to Dr Manmohan Singh's [Images] government should he decide to go ahead with the treaty.

Former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee is expected to deal with some of the points raised by the government in recent days while defending signing of the nuclear deal at the Kissan Rally in New Delhi on Monday at Ram Lila grounds.

He said that mid-term polls seemed to be the only solution should they look at the ground realities of the present political situation.

"Our party was the first one to oppose the nuclear deal in its present form as it takes away the sovereignty of the country. We wanted this government to last full five years but it is falling because of the contradictions between the ruling alliance and the parties which are supporting the government from outside," he said.
