The government is working for the success of the Indo-US nuclear deal mechanism to address the concerns raised by the Left parties, Minister for External Affairs Pranab Mukherjee said on Saturday.

"We are working for the success of the mechanism (for which a committee will be formed)," Mukherjee told reporters on the sidelines of a seminar on South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation in Kolkata.

The decision to form the United Progressive Alliance-Left Committee was announced on Thursday to study the implications of the 123 Agreement in view of certain concerns of the government's allies.

The agreement will be operationalised taking into account findings of the committee.

To a question Mukherjee said the government was ready to discuss the civil nuclear deal in Parliament.

"We are committed to a debate in Parliament on the Indo-US nuclear deal," he said but refused to say anything further on the issue as Parliament is in session.

The government and the Left parties reached the truce in their three-week long stand-off on the deal at a meeting attended by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh [Images], UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi [Images], Communist Party of India-Marxist general secretary Prakash Karat and his CPI counterpart A B Bardhan.
