The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam on Tuesday lodged a police complaint against former Bharatiya Janata Party member of Parliament Ram Vilas Vedanti, seeking suitable action for his alleged directive against its patriarch and Chief Minister M Karunanidhi.

DMK legal wing secretary R S Bharathi handed over the complaint letter to city Police Commissioner Nanjil Kumaran at his office in Chennai on Tuesday.

In the complaint, Bharathi said he was shocked and anguished on seeing reports that Vedanti had given a directive to behead the DMK supreme and cut off his tonguee.

 The former MP had incited violence and terrorism by issuing such a threat to a statesman of the country, and a case should be registered against him under IPC 153 (wantonly giving provocation with intent to cause riot), 153 A (promoting enmity between different groups on the ground of religion), 505 (statements conducive to public mischief) and 506 (2) (criminal intimidation), Bharathi urged.

The police had already registered a case against Vedanti, acting on a complaint by one Dhananchezhian, a local resident. The case was registered against Vedanti last night for "promoting enmity between various communities, committing acts prejudicial to maintaining communal harmony and making statement conducive to public mischief," police said.
