The Indian Union Muslim League on said it has conveyed its "strong and serious" concerns about the nuclear deal during a meeting of top UPA leaders, but assured that it will vote in favour of the Government during the confidence motion.

IUML leader and Minister of State for External Affairs Minister E Ahamed said his party has concerns whether with the operationalisation of the deal, the country's independent foreign policy would be affected.

"We were assured by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh [Images] and Congress chief Sonia Gandhi [Images] that the case is not so. We will support the UPA in any case as this is the Government which did tremendous things for the minorities. We will vote in favour of this government," he told reporters.

Noting that his party has "strong and serious" concerns about the deal, Ahamed said that he told the UPA meeting that under no circumstances country's non-alignment policy should be compromised.

"We have certain apprehensions which we have raised earlier also. As a political party, we have every right to do so," he said.

He said the UPA government is perhaps the dispensation which did the most for minorities in the past 50 years.

 Asked about reports that he may resign from the government if it goes ahead with the deal, the Minister said the reports were "speculative".
